Dr. Kim Danoff

Veterinarian with Pembroke Welsh CorgiDr. Danoff was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. During her childhood years, she had various species of pets including fish, salamanders, a frog, a bird, box turtles, dogs, and cats. Her passion for rescuing sick, injured, and neglected animals began as a very young child. At the age of five, she decided she wanted to become a veterinarian, after learning her Scottish Terrier had metastatic mammary cancer and needed to be euthanized.

After high school, she headed north for her undergraduate studies, and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from George Mason University. She then moved back to Florida for veterinary school, and received her veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 1999. Following graduation, she went on to complete a one year internship in small animal medicine at Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts; and then returned to Northern Virginia where she worked as an emergency and critical care practitioner at referral hospitals for 2½ years.

In 2002, she opened her own clinic, and in 2009 she opened an online pet store, called The Green Pet Store. Dr. Danoff is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and certified in canine rehabilitation through The University of Tennessee. Dr. Danoff is a Reiki Master Practitioner; and is working on her certifications in Chinese herbal medicine, Tui-Na, and Chinese Food Therapy, and will be starting a non-profit management program with George Mason University. In 2009 she became a licensed wildlife rehabilitator focusing on reptiles and amphibians, and will be applying for her federal migratory bird license in the future.

Dr. Danoff is very active in the animal welfare community both locally and nationally. She is an Avian Welfare Coalition participant, and is on the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association Leadership Council. Her goal is to open a parrot sanctuary in the future and hopes to apply for her 501c-3 this year.

Dr. Danoff's professional interests include pain management, congenital and acquired limb deformities, braces/prosthetics, geriatric care, osteoarthritis, avian and exotic animal medicine, hospice care and avian welfare and rescue. Professional memberships include The American Veterinary Medical Association, The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, The International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, The American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncturists, and The Avian Welfare Coalition.

Dr. Danoff is a vegan and shares her home with a variety of rescued animals. These include 4 cats (2 senior and 2 geriatric), 17 parrots (4 cockatiels, 2 Sun Conures, a Lovebird, and 10 Amazons), 2 snakes (a Ball Python and a Solomon Island Boa), 2 lizards (a Uromastyx and a Chinese Water Dragon), and a Greek tortoise. In her spare time, she enjoys boating, snorkeling, camping, white water canoeing and kayaking, adventure travel, theater, wine tasting, working-out, dancing, and spending time with her human and animal family.
